La Souterraine is the second biggest town in the Creuse and has a poplution of around 6,000. It lies just off the main A20 from Limoges to Paris.
This is a pretty little town with a fascinating medieval heart. It is a resting spot along the pilgrim route to St Jacques de Compostela. A short walking tour around the main sites of interest, including the church crypts which give the town its name, can be taken during the summer months.
